Grandolin’s blog for Amy, Zoe, Laura and Joseph

Keith, Laura, Joseph and I flew to Johannesburg to meet Jon where we hired cars and fetched Nancy from Midrand. We arrived at Kwa at the same time as Ian and Kate, Amy and Zoe who drove from the farm. We all settled in Cabanas 7,8 and 9 which overlooked the veld and waterhole.

Soon after arrival we checked the waterhole for animals. We saw elephants on 6 out of 7 days and some days 3 times on a day. On the veld in front of the Cabanas we watched zebras, warthogs, gnus, koedoe and birds. We spent 3 hours on a game drive lorry when we saw rhinos and lion. Every meal we ate outside at a large table.

Christopher and Elizabeth Roper and auntie Merle dined with us on Saturday. The chef prepared a fabulous buffet.

Every day was swimming weather.

We enjoyed the last dinner at the Spur.  Laura and Joseph loved the playroom.

When it rained we travelled to Durban to visit Ushaka waterworld.  It was wonderful on a wet day but would be even better on a sunny day.

Nancy, Keith, Laura and Joseph met me in Scottburgh to visit Sevreen and Jack Holton. We stayed opposite the beach. Sevreen and Jack met with us everyday. We enjoyed a braai in the garden where Laura and Joseph organised a picnic with the children in the flats. Only one rainy day and we visited Ushaka in Durban. See next post.

A warm sunny day dawned on Sunday so we drove to Millers point with bathing costumes, bicycles and a picnic. The camp site was Eighty rand a night.  There were beautiful rolling lawns down the hill to the beach.  We settled under the trees and swam and played on the beach nearby.

3 years old today.  Can you remember the super day in the forest with the waterfall when you were only 2 ?

Happy birthday Amy. I wish I could see you on your birthday. I found a photo of you with amazing earings.- the biggest you will ever wear.

Jennifer and I arrived at about 2.30 pm at the Johannesburg Country Club for the wedding. There were about 10 people in the room and I took out my camera. I looked across the room to take photos and saw the back of a head that looked exactly like Keiths. Imagine my shock when I he turned and it was Keith. It was as though someone hit me in the stomach. It was more shock than I need in my life. Once I recovered it was amazing to see him.

Elizabeth and her team arranged wonderful flowers all over the room.

Quaker meeting was lovely when they made their promises to each other.

Amy and Zoe were the Flower girls.
